School District an Important Factor for Families Purchasing in Denver – Cory Elementary Receives State’s Highest Rankings
When looking for a new home, families should consider the school district in which they are looking to purchase. The Denver Metro area has many districts to choose from. While Denver Public Schools is open enrollment, homes within a strong district typically retain and increase their value as more and more families desire to live within the district. By owning a home within a desirable school district, families are relieved of the headache of hoping their child is accepted into their school of choice as their children are already enrolled as part of their local district. In the Denver Metro area, Cory Elementary is one school that is not only highly ranked with web sites such as greatschools.net but more importantly receives the highest rankings from the state. Cory is ranked “Excellent” for Overall Academic Performance on State Assessments and receives a “High” ranking for Academic Growth of Students by the state. In the Southeastern portion of the Denver Metro area, only Cory and Slavens receive the highest ranking for elementary schools.
There are obviously a number of factors that determine how the state ranks a school but one of the driving factors for Cory’s success is its gifted and talented program. Unlike other elementary schools in Denver county with gifted and talented programs, Cory is a magnate school. A magnate school is available to students who need a much more accelerated program than what is otherwise offered in his or her home school. Being a magnate school is advantageous to the school as a whole (and the students who attend) because it means a significant increase in funding for that school. In the past Cory has been divided 1/3 gifted and talented, 1/3 neighborhood kids and 1/3 choice students. The demand for Cory has grown in all three categories and last year Cory did not accept any choice students.
The decision to purchase a home within the Cory Elementary School District should be an influencing factor for couples looking to start a family or those already with young children.
